WealthWise is South Africa’s first free digital magazine about wealth, wealth management, business and investments. We are offering  easy-to-use, accessible and practical advice, tips and tricks on how to take your wealth to the next level.

In other words, WealthWise focuses on financial education and ways of achieving wealth, but this should not be viewed as a catalyst to quick and easy money making schemes. In fact, wealth is not about being (filthy) rich (and getting there fast), as most of us imagine, or a privilege of some few million people worldwide who make to this day 1% of the world’s population (a selective club indeed).

So what does this selective club know about wealth that we don’t usually think about?

  • Wealth is freedom. Wealth is about having more time to enjoy for yourself, your family and friends, more time to focus on the activities and hobbies you love (and no, the 9 to 5 job is not on the list).
  • Wealth is passive income. Unlike active income, which is money you have to constantly work for to receive (salary), passive income is generated without having to work everyday for the rest of your life.
  • Wealth is the creation and purchase of assets, not liabilities. Assets generate more money and future income (credit your account), while liabilities do not put extra money in your pocket after purchase (debit your account).
  • Wealth is financial independence and financial freedom. Financial independence occurs when your passive income completely covers your living expenses. You choose to work if you want to, not because you have to work so you can pay the bills. When your passive income exceeds your living expenses, consider yourself financially free.

Once we understand the simple truth about wealth, we are acknowledging what the journey to our financial comfort and happiness is all about and the fact that it doesn’t have to include a winner Lotto ticket, a wealthy parent or spouse, a lucky inheritance, a fabulous education at Harvard or being born under “a lucky star”. I believe this is the first and the most important lesson in achieving wealth: letting go of the stereotypes about money, wealth and richness.

WealthWise magazine will be here to guide you on your wealth journey – but first, open your mind to wealth and believe you too can make it happen and will make it happen. Because wealth has no limits, no favourites and no prejudices.
