My mother just had a problem with MTN and Altech Autopage in Hermanus. I asked her to write out exactly what happened and have posted a report on hellopeter.com

She has a contract with them (4 months old) - the contract includes a laptop and monthly data bundle. Please see below - what are her rights in respect of the CPA?

----

Mtn coverage was not available for one week. (from 1 sept)
On Thursday 6th Sept I went in to Autopage(at village square) to address the problem.
They tell me somebody at head office discontinued my (4month old) contract.
This is a Mr Ben de Villiers who authorised the discontinuation + changed my service arrangement to prepaid.
The “order” was carried out by an S Naidoo.
The Autopage guys then requested that my contract becomes reinstated as I never made the request in the first place.
(I have a monthly debit order that the contract payment is serviced through.)
The new number needed to be rika’d
I was asked to wait for 24 hrs for the service to be activated.
I waited for another week and went in to let them know that I still had no coverage with my service provider.
The staff once again phoned head office and repeated the entire story. Once again I was asked to wait for 24 hrs for the service to be reinstated.
I returned later that same week to be told the problem was unresolved. No explanation.
I was then asked to leave my sim card with them to enable them to sort out the problems.(Thursday)
Come Monday, I went in again to see if the problems had been delt with.
They could not find the sim card.
Later that evening I received a voice mail to say there was a problem...(don’t know what)
And I must please return the call. I have not been able to as all my airtime has been used to buy data bundles to prevent my
Internet business from dissolving.
I am furious.!!!!!

---
so basically she has not been able to use her internet for 27 days although she is still paying for it.

also, when she took out the contract she was assured that the internet would would properly at her house. I have tried it, and it is so slow it is impossible to use.

Should she be able to get out of this contract and return the laptop without penalties??
